Train the next generation of semiconductor technicians with a comprehensive, hands-on system that mirrors real-world manufacturing environments. The Semiconductor Learning Factory by Festo is a scalable, modular training solution designed to teach the full semiconductor production process—from cleanroom protocols to wafer packaging and distribution.
Equipped with advanced automation technologies, cleanroom components, ESD controls, and integrated MES4 software, this learning system offers students practical experience with Industry 4.0 tools used across the semiconductor industry. Learners gain critical skills in process control, inspection, and traceability while working with actual hardware such as robotic arms, laser etching stations, Pick-by-Light systems, and vision cameras.
The six-step approach to semiconductor manufacturing training:
Step 1: Environmental Control
Students learn to monitor and maintain cleanroom conditions using particle sensors, ionization systems, and HVAC controls to ensure an ideal, contamination-free environment for wafer handling.
Step 2: Cleanroom Protocols
Students apply standard cleanroom procedures to minimize contamination and uphold safety, mastering entry protocols and system security.
Step 3: Wafer Initialization
Students follow guided work orders to retrieve, inspect, and prepare wafers. They use laser etching systems to apply traceable marks, practicing safe handling techniques.
Step 4: Camera Vision Inspection
Students operate vision systems to inspect wafers for defects and verify serial numbers using high-resolution imaging.
Step 5: ESD Inspection
Students detect and neutralize static charges to protect wafers from ESD damage, using real-time data from MES and ionization systems.
Step 6: Wafer Packaging & Distribution
Students use robotic systems to handle wafers between stages, mastering the use of FOUPs and automated storage systems for safe transport.
